The Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team has completed two days of testing at the Autodromo do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal. These were the first sessions of the 2023 season for Sandro Carusi’s team and rider Bradley Ray.
The 25-year old Brit had never raced with the Yamaha YZF R1 in its Superbike version and had not had chance to work with his technical staff until now.
On day one of testing, which ran on a dry track and in warm conditions, the 2022 BSB champion set a time of 1’42”400, a time that Ray significantly improved upon during the second and final day, when he recorded a 1’41”293.
Beyond the lap times, the sessions at the Portuguese track have undoubtedly been positive. Bradley immediately found excellent feeling with both team and bike and will have chance to further improve during the next tests that the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team will carry out before the start of the championship.
“This was a very important test for us, and we’ve been able to try many different chassis solutions that have provided us with a lot of important data. Bradley continued to improve with each exit, and this leaves us confidence ahead of the next tests when we will continue to prepare for the start of the WorldSBK championship.”
“Two very positive days. Yesterday was my first experience of the team and the Superbike championship. It wasn’t easy at first, also because I hadn’t ridden since the end of last season, but thanks to the team’s hard work, I felt increasingly comfortable on the bike. We continued to work today, and the results came quickly. I was able to exploit the electronics and my feeling with my R1 further improved. Unfortunately, I crashed in the final stages, nothing serious, but I’m sorry for the team. I’ve got on really well with my technical team and can’t wait to continue preparing for the start of the season.”

Due proficue giornate di test a Portimão
Lo Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team ha svolto due giornate di test sulla pista dell’Autodromo do Algarve a Portimão, in Portogallo.
Si è trattato del debutto stagionale per la squadra di Sandro Carusi e per il suo pilota Bradley Ray. Il venticinquenne inglese non aveva mai corso con la Yamaha YZF R1 in versione Superbike e non aveva ancora lavorato con lo staff tecnico della sua nuova squadra.
Nella prima giornata di prove, su pista asciutta e con un clima mite, il campione BSB 2022 ha fatto segnare il tempo di 1’42”400, un crono nettamente migliorato da Ray nel secondo ed ultimo giorno di prove, grazie ad un giro in 1’41”293.
Al di la dei riscontri cronometrici, il bilancio di questa due giorni portoghese è senza dubbio positivo. Bradley ha trovato subito un ottimo feeling con la squadra e con la moto, ed avrà modo di migliorarlo nei successivi test che lo Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team svolgerà prima dell’inizio del campionato.
“È stato un test molto importante per noi, ed abbiamo potuto provare molte soluzioni di ciclistica che ci hanno dato informazioni importanti. Bradley si è costantemente migliorato turno dopo turno, e questo ci rende fiduciosi per i prossimi test nei quali continueremo a lavorare per prepararci al WorldSBK”.
“Sono state due giornate molto positive. Ieri è stata la mia prima volta con il team e nel mondiale Superbike. All’inizio non è stato facile, anche perché non salivo in moto dal termine della passata stagione, ma grazie al lavoro della squadra mi sono sentito sempre più a mio agio sulla moto. Oggi abbiamo continuato a lavorare ed i risultati si sono visti subito. Sono riuscito a sfruttare meglio la parte elettronica ed il feeling con la mia R1 è ulteriormente cresciuto. Purtroppo nel finale sono scivolato. Nulla di grave ma mi dispiace per la squadra. Mi sono trovato molto bene con tutto lo staff tecnico e non vedo l’ora di continuare a prepararci per l’inizio della nostra stagione”.
