Team MotoXracing has concluded an official two-day WorldWCR test at the Cremona Circuit.
The current Italian champion, Roberta Ponziani #96, and French rider Ornella Ongaro #28, a new entry to the team, were both out on track for this week’s sessions.
The 2024 FIM Women's Motorcycling World Championship will comprise six rounds, running within the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, with the riders competing aboard Yamaha YZF-R7 machines, the chassis numbers of which were drawn on Thursday morning by Yamaha riders Niccolò Canepa and Andrea Locatelli.
With the bikes drawn and despite the rather unstable weather conditions, the MotoXracing riders have completed their first outing, with both Roberta and Ornella immediately able to achieve encouraging results.
Roberta Ponziani stood out on Friday, on a dry track and in sunny conditions, running up front across almost all the sessions and placing second overall with a best time of 1’42.121, just a few tenths from champion Ana Carrasco.
Ornella, who returns to full-time competition after several years’ break, finished inside the top fifteen, demonstrating good feeling with her Yamaha.
The team will be back on track at Misano for some additional test days, during which they will define the final details ahead of Round 1, scheduled to take place at the same circuit on 14-16 June.
Sandro Carusi – Team Manager
“We return from Cremona pumped and ready for the start of the season. I’m really happy with the work our riders and team have completed. With Roberta’s very strong result and Ornella’s continuous improvement, I’m feeling very confident ahead of round 1 at Misano!”
Roberta Ponziani #96
“I’m more than satisfied and very happy. We were the second quickest on track and I felt very comfortable with the bike, finding great feeling right from the off. This bodes well for the opening round. A big thank you to the team for all their hard work and support.”
Ornella Ongaro #28
“After a four-year hiatus from racing, I’m really pleased with how this two-day test has gone! I’m slowly starting to rebuild the feeling and can say that I’m truly honoured to be back wearing these colours. And now I can’t wait to get out and test at Misano so that we are well prepared for the opening round.”
