Misano World Circuit: Ponziani and Ongaro to line up for the historic first round of the WorldWCR

The moment has finally come, with Team MotoXracing ready to head out at the Misano World Circuit for the first historic round of the FIM Women's Motorcycling World Championship with its two riders, current Italian champion Roberta Ponziani #96 and French rider Ornella Ongaro #28.

The first round of the WorldWCR will play out at the Italian track dedicated to Marco Simoncelli. Incorporating ten right-hand turns and six left-handers, the track is set to stage an event that is historic both for motorcycling in general and for Sandro Carusi’s team. MotoXracing will line up with the only Italian rider competing in the women’s world championship, for a pairing that truly represents Italy in the world!

In May, the riders completed their first test of the season at the Cremona Circuit, immediately obtaining positive results. While #96 proved to be the second fastest rider on track, setting a time just a few tenths from the fastest lap, #28 continued to build confidence with the bike, placing inside the top fifteen despite having been away from the racetracks for several years.

There’s no doubt that the team is in for an exciting weekend!

Here, the schedule for the sessions and races making up this inaugural round of the WorldWCR:

Friday 14 June
09:00 - 09:25 Free practice
13:25 - 13:50 Superpole

11:50 Race 1

11:50 Race 2

“I’ve supported and promoted women’s racing for many years and so we’re ready and excited ahead of this first round. We start with a home race, and it’s a real point of pride to represent Italy, not to mention extra motivation to demonstrate the potential of our riders. See you at Misano!”

“I can’t wait to start! The first round is here at home, and I have to admit I’m so excited! Misano is one of my favourite tracks and after the results we achieved in testing at Cremona, I’m feeling confident. See you on track!”

“I’m really excited and impatient to start. This round marks my return to racing and after the recent tests, I reckon we can aim for the top ten. Friday’s practices will be very important in terms of building feeling with the bike. I’m pleased to be one of the women who will make motorcycling history and I’m especially proud to do so with a team like MotoXracing!”
