Ray scores points in Race 1 at Assen

The weather once again played a starring role at the TT Circuit Assen in The Netherlands, where the third WorldSBK round is taking place this weekend.

Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK rider Bradley Ray completed yesterday’s free practice sessions in twentieth place, returning to the track this morning for a third and final practice before taking part in the Superpole, which ran on a wet track. With a time of 1’46”093, Ray again placed twentieth, meaning a spot on the sixth row for the afternoon’s race.

The rain stopped shortly before the race began, leaving a wet track. The English rider decided to put in slick tyres and so struggled to get into a good rhythm in the early stages. As the race went on however, Bradley was increasingly fast, despite having to complete a long lap penalty received at the Barcelona round.

Unfortunately, a red flag that came out seven laps from the finish put an end to both the race and Ray’s recovery. The rider crossed the line in fifteenth position, scoring one championship point in the process.
Tomorrow’s track action involves the Superpole Race and second Superbike race.

“A race complicated by the weather. We decided on the tyres at the last minute, and it proved to be the right choice. It was a pity the red flag put a premature end to the race, as we could have done more than fifteenth had the race continued. We’ll try again tomorrow.”

“I’m quite pleased with my race. We made changes to the bike that seemed effective, but the track conditions were very difficult, and I also had to complete a long lap penalty! I made good progress in the race anyway and can’t wait to get back out for tomorrow’s races, in the hope the weather is better. Thanks to their team for all their great work.”
