At the undulating Portimao to improve in both WorldSBK and WorldSSP300

The Autodromo do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal will host the seventh WorldSBK round and the fifth WorldSSP300 round this coming weekend.

An important double-header for the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team, that is looking to build on the results scored at previous events.
For the WorldSBK team, having reached the mid-way point with the Most round, the goal is to be a regular points scorer, a target that is looking less challenging now that Bradley Ray’s bike appears more competitive. In Supersport 300, young Italians Elia Bartolini and Emiliano Ercolani are tasked with confirming the solid performances they put in during the previous Czech round.

With high temperatures expected, the practices and races will take place in the late afternoon and early evening.
The Autodromo Internacional do Algarve was inaugurated in October 2008, receiving FIM and FIA homologation. It cost in the region of 195 million Euro and hosted its first official event, the season’s final WorldSBK round, on 2 November 2008.

Aside from the track, the facility includes a karting track, a technological park, a five-star hotel, a sports complex and various apartments. A “motorsports village” that extends over an area of roughly 300 hectares. Measuring 4592 metres in length and featuring nine right-hand turns and six left-handers, the track offers 64 possible variants with respect to its original configuration.

“We expect the races at Portimao to be very challenging, due to both the track layout and the likely high temperatures. We hope to improve on our recent results in both the Superbike and Supersport 300 categories. We’ll be going all out.”

“I’m keen to get out on track at Portimao. During the last two rounds, we’ve worked in the right direction and have found a good setting for our bike. I’ve been able to close the gap to the frontrunners and am sure we can fight for the top ten to fifteen positions in the races. We need to continue to work together and remain positive for the rest of the season.”
