The sixth WorldSSP300 round concluded today at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France.
Elia Bartolini and Emiliano Ercolani took part in Race 1 yesterday, with Elia forced to retire due to a technical problem and Emiliano finishing P12.
Today, in dry, sunny conditions, the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSSP300 riders were back out at the French track for Race 2.
The race was interrupted on lap three when a rider broke his engine and dirtied the track. The race was soon restarted but reduced to seven laps. After working hard to make up ground, Bartolini reached the leading group but crashed following a contact just a few metres from the finish line. He was nevertheless able to finish, closing in ninth place.
Ercolani started well and was in the chasing group when a contact caused him to lose many places. He eventually crossed the line sixteenth, just outside the points zone.
The next WorldSSP300 round will take place on 27-29 September at Motorland Aragon in Spain.
“Our riders worked hard to recover in the race, with Emiliano just missing out on points and Elia involved in a thrilling finale after a contact caused him to crash. A hard-fought ninth place finish. Overall, it was a difficult but positive weekend.”
“I found good feeling with the bike and was running a good race, when contact with another rider caused me to lose ground that I was never able to make up. It also caused me to lose focus. In the end, I closed sixteenth, half a second from the points. I’m disappointed but we’ll make up for it at Aragon”.
“I worked to recover right from lap one and was able to reach the leading group. It was a pity that a rider crashed on the last lap, which caused the rider ahead of me to take evasive action and touch me, which caused me to crash. I was able to cross the line though, in ninth place. Next we’ll finally head to a track we already know and where we should be competitive right from the off.”
