The Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSSP300 Team is at Motorland Aragon in Spain for the seventh and penultimate round of the Supersport 300 World Championship with its two riders Emiliano Ercolani and Elia Bartolini.
The two young Italian were out on the technical Aragon track yesterday for free practice and Superpole. In the qualifying phase, Ercolani placed fifteenth (2’08”248) and Bartolini seventeenth (2’08”294). These results meant that Emiliano started from row five and Elia from row six for the morning’s race, which ran in sunny conditions and on a dry track.
Both riders made a good start and maintained their positions, forming part of the large chasing group. Battling for the entire eleven laps and constantly exchanging positions with their closest rivals, Ercolani crossed the line fifteenth, scoring one point for his efforts, while Bartolini finished seventeenth.
Tomorrow the two Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSSP300 riders will line up for Race 2. Having set the sixth fastest time in Race 1, Emiliano will start from the second row tomorrow.
“Considering their starting positions and how tough this championship, race 1 was positive. Ercolani maintained a good pace and scored a point, while Bartolini was able to catch up after coming into contact with another rider. Two factors that leave us confident ahead of tomorrow’s race.”
“I ran a good race. I was consistently fast and could have done more if I’d not lost time overtaking the many riders in my group. I set the sixth quickest lap time and so can start from row 2 tomorrow.”
“My race was complicated by the fact I came into contact with another rider on lap one, which caused me to lose time and positions. I made up as much ground as I could but had to settle for seventeenth place. I think we can do more tomorrow, thanks also to the data collected today,”
