The seventh WorldSSP300 round concluded today at Motorland Aragon in Spain. On Saturday, riders Emiliano Ercolani and Elia Bartolini completed Race 1 in fifteenth and seventeenth position respectively.
Today, in dry, sunny conditions, the two young Italian were back out for Race 2, which ran in the late morning. Based on their best lap times in Race 1, Ercolani started from the second row and Bartolini from the seventh.
The Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSSP300 riders both made a good start, but the race was stopped on lap 3 following an incident involving several riders.
The race was soon restarted but reduced to just seven laps. Elia Bartolini crossed the line fifteenth, scoring a championship point in the process, but Emiliano Ercolani had less luck, crashing at turn 7 on the penultimate lap.
The final WorldSSP300 round will run on 18-20 October at the Jerez Circuit in Spain.
“Mixed results for our two riders, but a crash can happen with such a large field. I’ve seen improvement and a lot of determination and so I’m confident we can round out the season in a positive fashion at Jerez.”
“I got caught up in the chasing group for the entire race, battling for tenth but unable to make up positions. Unfortunately, I then crashed two laps from the end in trying to avoid a rider who fell in front of me. We’ll try to make up for this at Jerez”.
“I tried to catch up, but it was complicated. The red flag definitely didn’t help because I then I to start over from the grid position of yesterday. I did my best to work my way up the field but there was no way I could do more than fifteenth today. We’ll try to do more at the last round.”
