Team MotoXracing concludes the Luciano Sorlini Round at Grobnik, the stage for round four of the Women’s European Championship, with two solid performances by #8 Denise Dal Zotto and #93 Silvia Comincioli.
The two riders made the most of practice on Friday, familiarising themselves with the challenging Croatian track and starting to adapt their Yamaha R3 bikes. A crash unfortunately left Silvia with pain in her right knee.
Saturday proved to be a real test bench. Denise and Silvia made full use of every session to heighten their feeling, which continued to improve. In qualifying, Denise secured the sixth spot on the grid with a time of 1’41”880, while Silvia, who consistently improved despite the pain in her knee, finished seventh, which translated into a third row start.
Race 1 got underway at 17:40 and Denise made a very strong start, immediately getting away with the leading group. At the end of a very hard-fought twelve laps, she crossed the line just outside the top three. Silvia tenaciously maintained her starting position to close with another strong top ten finish.
Sunday brought the weekend’s second battle. Denise again got away well and ran a strong race to again finish P4. Silvia, despite her less-than-ideal physical condition, fought hard against her two closest rivals to again place P7.
Team MotoXracing will be back on track on 13-15 September for the CIV Femminile championship at the Varano circuit in Italy, ready to write the next successful chapter.
“I can be pleased with the determination the riders showed. The team has worked really well and now we just have to keep focusing to round out the season on a high!”
“A weekend in which we continued to improve. We tried to learn the track as quickly as possible and we already able to set some good times in practice. Unfortunately, a few issues with the clutch in the two qualifying sessions meant that we weren’t able to put in the kind of times we wanted and so started P6 in both races. In race 1 we battled to the very end for P3, ultimately crossing the line fourth. In race 2, we started strong and were immediately there with the leading group, but unfortunately, I started to battle with the rider behind me and this meant I lost contact with the group, again finishing P4. Thanks to my team for the fantastic improvement and growth that we are making.”
“It was a pretty challenging weekend. Unfortunately, a crash on Thursday compromised my entire weekend. I gritted my teeth for the team, my family and the sponsors, and the important thing is that I brought home important championship points.”
