Sunday’s Superpole Race and second Superbike race have brought the fifth WorldSBK round at Donington Park to a close.
This was a home round for Bradley Ray, who competes for the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team, at a track he knows and enjoys.
Yesterday morning saw Ray out for Superpole, a session he finished in seventeenth place, before crossing the line sixteenth in Race 1, just missing out on the points zone.
This morning, in cool, cloudy conditions, Bradley was out for the Superpole Race, which ran over a distance of just ten laps. Getting away from row six, he was unable to find the kind of pace that would allow him to make him ground, which meant the British rider closed nineteenth.
In Race 2, which got underway in the afternoon, Ray was unable to express his full potential or that of the YZF-R1 and finished eighteenth.
The next WorldSBK round will pay out already next weekend, 19-21 July, at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic.
“Unfortunately, although we improved on our race time by 17 seconds, we were able to reach the points zone as planned. We’re disappointed but determined to keep going with our work, to improve further and achieve the kind of results we know we can obtain.”
“I’m pleased with my last race here at Donington. We made a step forward with the bike, were in fact 17 seconds quicker than we were in Race 1, and I was able to stick with the chasing group. I’m lacking a little grip and acceleration, but today I did my best and know I gave it my all. Thanks to the whole team for their hard work this weekend, and now we’ll focus on the next round, which is already next week at Most.”
