Si è concluso oggi al Misano World Circuit il primo round della Women’s European Cup, alla quale il Team Motoxracing partecipa con le due pilote Roberta Ponziani e Patrycja Sowa. Dopo un venerdì complicato dalla pioggia, ieri le qualifiche si sono disputate su pista asciutta.

Il best lap della Sowa, caduta nella seconda sessione, è stato di 2’04”376 e l’ha collocata in sesta fila sulla griglia di partenza della gara odierna. La Ponziani ieri ha fatto segnare il terzo crono in 1’55”855 nella prima sessione mentre ha poi dovuto rinunciare alla seconda, a causa dei postumi di una caduta. Oggi ha preso il via dalla prima fila, nella gara che si è disputata in tarda mattinata, su di una pista bagnata dalla pioggia caduta prima del via.

Viste le condizioni del tracciato romagnolo entrambe le pilota del Motoxracing sono partite con cautela, attente a non commettere errori che avrebbero potuto compromettere la loro gara. L’italiana è sempre rimasta nel gruppo delle inseguitrici, in lotta per il podio, mentre la polacca ha mantenuto la posizione di partenza. La Ponziani ha lottato sino all’ultimo giro con le sue avversarie, concludendo al quinto posto, a pochi decimi dalla terza. Anche a causa delle sue non perfette condizioni fisiche Patrycja non ha potuto forzare il suo ritmo, ed ha terminato la gara al diciottesimo posto.

Il prossimo appuntamento con la Women’s European Cup è fissato per il weekend del 23 e 24 aprile sulla pista di Valencia in Spagna.

Sandro Carusi – Team Principal: " Abbiamo iniziato il campionato con le peggiori condizioni che si potessero aspettare. Vedo il quinto posto di Roberta come un bicchiere mezzo pieno. Complimenti a Patrycja per aver affrontato la gara con sicurezza, nonostante la scivolata e le condizioni della pista".

Roberta Ponziani: “La gara è andata abbastanza bene. Siamo partiti con la pista bagnata e con gomme rain, ed ho sfruttato i primi giri per capire bene la pista ed il comportamento della mia moto in queste difficili condizioni. Inizialmente ero sesta nel gruppo degli inseguitori, ma le posizioni cambiavano spesso e sono stata anche terza. Nella bagarre dell’ultimo giro ci siamo superate continuamente ed ho tagliato il traguardo al quinto posto, a pochi decimi dal podio. Considerando anche la mia caduta di ieri penso che per questa volta mi posso accontentare della quinta posizione. Ringrazio il team che mi ha aiutato molto e tutti i nostri sponsor”

Patrycja Sowa: “Non sono soddisfatta della mia gara, condizionata da una pista in condizioni molto difficili. Il tracciato era molto scivoloso e io dopo la caduta di ieri non ho voluto forzare il mio ritmo. Oggi stavo bene, ma non sono certo al massimo della mia condizione fisica per cui ho cercato soprattutto di non commettere errori e di concludere la gara. Andrà sicuramente meglio a Valencia. Ringrazio la mia squadra che ha lavorato molto bene”.

Motoxracing – Women’s European Cup – Fifth for Ponziani in race one at Misano

The first round of the Women’s European Cup has concluded today at the Misano World Circuit, Team Motoxracing competing with its two riders Roberta Ponziani and Patrycja Sowa. After a Friday complicated by rain, yesterday’s qualifying took place on a dry track. Having crashed in the second session, Sowa’s best lap was a 2’04”376 with which she earned a spot on the sixth row of the grid for today’s race. Yesterday saw Ponziani set the third fastest time, a 1’55”855, in the first session, while she was forced to sit out the second due to the after-effects of a crash. Today she lined up on the front row of the grid for the race which ran in the late morning on a wet train, after rain fell before the start.
Considering the track conditions, both Motoxracing riders made a cautious start, careful not to make any mistakes that could compromise their race. The Italian remained part of the chasing group, battling for the podium, while the Polish rider held her starting position. Ponziani fought with her rivals until the very last lap, crossing the line in fifth place, just a few tenths from third. Not in perfect physical shape following her earlier crash, Patrycja was unable to push and closed the race in eighteenth place.
The next round of the Women’s European Cup will take place over the weekend of 23-24 April at the Valencia track in Spain.

Sandro Carusi – Team Principal: "We’ve started the championship with the worst conditions you could expect. I view Roberta’s fifth place finish as a glass half full. Well done to Patrycja for having run a confident race, despite her earlier crash and the track conditions".

Roberta Ponziani: “The race went quite well. We started on a wet track and with rain tyres and I used the first laps to understand the track and the bike’s behaviour in these difficult conditions. At first, I was lying sixth, part of the chasing group, but the positions kept changing and I was also third at one point. In the last lap battle, we kept passing each other and I crossed the line fifth, just a few tenths from the podium. Considering yesterday’s crash, I think I can be happy with fifth today. Thanks to the team for all their help and all our sponsors too.”

Patrycja Sowa: “I’m not satisfied with my race, which was conditioned by very difficult track conditions. The surface was very slippery and after yesterday’s crash I didn’t want to force my rhythm. I felt good today but was definitely not in perfect shape, so I mainly focused on not making any mistakes and just finishing the race. Things will no doubt go better at Valencia. Thanks to my team for all their hard work here”.
