Quinto round del Campionato Mondiale Superbike per il Team Motoxracing questo fine settimana, sulla pista di Donington Park in Inghilterra.
Ad un mese di distanza dal precedente appuntamento di Misano Adriatico, la squadra di Sandro Carusi torna in azione sullo storico tracciato situato nei pressi di Castle Donington, nella provincia del Leicerstershire.
Roberto Tamburini si è completamente ripreso dai postumi dell’infortunio del quale era stato vittima in allenamento, prima delle gare dell’Estoril, e se a Misano ha dovuto stringere i denti per esprimersi al massimo, in Inghilterra il pilota di Rimini è pronto per sfruttare tutto il potenziale della sua Yamaha. L’obiettivo di Roberto e di tutta la squadra è quello di continuare ad acquisire esperienza, progredire e concludere le gare in zona punti.
L’autodromo di Donington Park è stato costruito nel 1931. Chiuso a causa delle due guerre mondiali, è tornato ad ospitare gare motoristiche nel 1977. Proprio su questo tracciato il 3 aprile 1988 si è disputato il primo round della storia del WorldSBK e da allora sul tracciato del Leicerstershire si sono disputate 58 gare della classe regina del mondiale delle derivate.
La pista ha attualmente una lunghezza totale di 4023 metri con 12 curve delle quali 7 a destra e 5 a sinistra. Negli anni è stata oggetto di alcune modifiche l’ultima delle quali nel 1985, quando venne realizzato il tratto dietro al paddock denominato Melbourne Loop, che è stato spesso teatro di contatti e di scivolate che hanno deciso le gare.
Sandro Carusi – Team Principal: “Arriviamo alla ripresa del campionato fiduciosi di aver recuperato la migliore condizione fisica di Roberto. Speriamo di continuare la nostra presenza in zona punti, e quel trend positivo iniziato nelle gare precedenti".
Roberto Tamburini: “Questa pausa di un mese è stata utile per riprendere la mia migliore forma fisica. Sono quattro anni che non corro a Donington Park, ma conosco la pista e so che è molto bella ma anche impegnativa. Ci dovremo impegnare sin dalle prime prove libere per adattare la nostra moto a questa pista. Il mio obiettivo è quello di lavorare assieme alla squadra e dare il massimo, per poterci confermare in zona punti, ma con un occhio alla top ten”.

At Donington to continue to make progress
Team Motoxracing prepares for round five of the 2022 Superbike World Championship taking place this weekend at the Donington Park circuit in the UK. A month after the previous races at the Misano World Cicuit, Sandro Carusi’s team is back in action at the historic track located close to Castle Donington, in the county of Leicestershire.
Roberto Tamburini has now fully recovered from the injury he sustained while training prior to the Estoril races, and while he had to grit his teeth to do his best at Misano, the Italian is ready to exploit his Yamaha’s full potential in England. The team’s goal is to continue to gain experience, make progress and finish the races in the points zone.
The Donington Park circuit was built in 1931. Closed due to the two world wars, it began hosting motorsport races again in 1977. It was at this very track that the first WorldSBK round played out on 3 April 1988, with a total of 58 production-derived races having run at the Leicestershire track since then.
The track currently measures 4023 metres in length and features twelve turns, seven of which right-handers and five left. Over the years, it has undergone a few changes, the last of which in 1985, when the section behind the paddock known as the Melbourne Loop was added, often the stage for contacts and crashes that have proved decisive in races.
Sandro Carusi – Team Principal: “As the championship resumes, we are confident that Roberto is back in the best physical shape. We hope to continue to finish in the points zone and build on the positive trend we saw in previous races.”
Roberto Tamburini: “This month’s break has been useful, allowing me to fully recover. I haven’t raced at Donington Park for four years, but I know the track and know it is beautiful but also challenging. We’ll need to work hard right from first practice to adapt our bike to the track. My goal is to work hard with my team and give it my all, to be able to reach the points zone, but also with an eye to the top ten.”
